The global average electricity price for hydroelectric and PSPPs in 2018 was $ 0.047 per kWh, making hydropower the cheapest energy source in many markets (according to a 2018 report by the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA). In addition, hydropower generates significant export earnings to neighboring countries.
